The Early Signs of Diabetes

Diabetes can be aptly described as a sinister, silent and deadly medical condition that is controllable, but NOT curable. It affects both young and old people, with the number of diabetics estimated to be in the tens of millions all over the world ... and growing. What adds to the alarming statistics is the fact that there are an equal number of undiagnosed people suffering from this medical condition who aren’t aware they do, but experience some signs of diabetes all the same.

Get Checked. Negligence Isn’t An Option

The price of negligence is too high, because if left undiagnosed or untreated, diabetes can lead to serious health problems over time, including kidney failure, nerve disease, loss of eyesight, and more. Unfortunately, ignorance or confusion - about the early signs of diabetes and its consequences among people experiencing some of its symptoms - leads to the symptoms being disregarded as nothing of concern or significance, or worse, failure to seek medical diagnosis early on.

The truth is there are more signs of diabetes than one that you must be aware of. While early diagnosis can reveal, whether or not, you have this slow-progressing, stealthy and potentially life-threatening health issue, ALL signs of diabetes MUST be checked ... without delay!

Look For These Early Signs Of Diabetes

The following are some of the most common signs of diabetes that could indicate whether or not you are afflicted with this health condition. However what’s important is to get yourself checked no sooner you experience one or more of these signs of diabetes.

High frequency of urination - One of the most common signs of diabetes which is caused by the presence of high sugar levels in the blood, as a result of which potential diabetics experience high urination frequency. The higher levels of blood flowing through the kidneys, is a consequence of the higher sugar level present in the blood, both of which trigger frequent urination. It’s true that the older one gets, urination frequency increases. However, diagnosis of this possible symptom of diabetes is still imperative to rule out whether or not it is the underlying cause of diabetes.

Abnormal weight loss - To maintain normal weight, cells need to extract sufficient levels of energy from the food you consume. The inability of the cells to do so occurs when your body does not produce enough insulin to facilitate this energy-extraction process. As a result, your body is starved of the adequate levels of energy it needs for normal weight, leading to diminished muscle and fat mass, and subsequently abnormal and progressive weight loss.

Extreme hunger - Another of the most common signs of diabetes which is caused by insulin deficiency. This deficiency is, in turn, caused by the cells inability to extract enough energy required for processing vital body functions. Energy-starved cells constantly transmit signals to the brain leading to continuous and extreme hunger in the diabetic patient. Moreover, extreme hunger also occurs when cells are unable to extract glucose from food intake which is also the cause of insulin deficiency.

Unquenchable thirst - Yet another one of the most common signs of diabetes experienced by people afflicted with diabetes. Insatiable thirst is caused by the higher levels of water extracted by the kidneys from the body of a diabetic sufferer. The body’s continuous demand for re-supply of water is what causes the inordinate and unquenchable thirst cycle in the diabetic patient.

Unprovoked irritability - Almost all diabetic sufferers experience some levels of unprovoked depression and mood swings. This is a result of the drastic changes caused by the undiagnosed signs of diabetes they experience.

Impaired or blurred vision, incessant fatigue and numbness or tingling in extremities, are some other common signs of diabetes, in addition to those described above. What’s most important, however, is to seek medical diagnosis, no sooner you experience any one or more of these signs of diabetes and live a happier, healthier life.
