Know the Common Diabetic Symptoms



Diabetes is a serious condition and when left untreated it can lead to various complications. Once complications set in, it may be difficult for the sufferer to lead a normal life. If you happen to be one of those people who have a long family history of this disease, you better be aware of the different diabetic symptoms. Studies show that people with family history of diabetes are predisposed to this type of ailment so take precautions and learn more about the common diabetic symptoms as early as possible.

Getting To Know the Disease.

Diabetic symptoms may differ from one person to another. Some people experience dramatic changes and severe diabetic symptoms while others do not even show any signs of the disease. According to experts, the degree of diabetic symptoms also differs on the type of diabetes. Most people who have type II diabetes often do not have very perceptible diabetic symptoms early on while children with type I diabetes often manifest diabetic symptoms at the onset of the ailment. On the other hand, pregnant women who have gestational diabetes often do not show any symptoms and many pregnant women do not get treatment until the disease has become serious.

Symptoms of Type I Diabetes.

Type I diabetes often affects children and young adults. According to experts, this type of diabetes is often a result of a genetic defect in the persons system. Children who are born to parents with type I have high chances of suffering from this disease. Unlike type II diabetes which develop slowly, type I diabetes can develop very quickly. The symptoms of this disease is often include fatigue, weight loss, excessive urination, unquenchable thirst, weakness and slow healing sores. The diabetic symptoms of children may vary and some children show more severe symptoms than the others.

If left untreated, type I diabetes can be lethal especially to small children. A lot of children and even adults have landed in hospitals due to diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperglycemia. Without immediate treatment people who suffer from diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperglycemia may go into shock and may die.

Symptoms of Type II Diabetes.

Unlike type I diabetes which may develop quickly, type II diabetes develops gradually over a long period of time. According to experts, people who are overweight are more likely to develop this type of disease as compared to their slimmer counterparts. Since type II diabetes develops slowly, some people who already have the disease do not show any diabetic symptoms for sometime. However, as the disease slowly develop in the body, the sufferer may start to notice some diabetic symptoms including frequent urination, excessive thirst, excessive hunger, slow healing of cuts, sores especially around the feet, blurred vision and weakness.

Type II diabetes can have long term complications including cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, serious skin infections and gangrene, blindness and neurological problems. Fortunately, since type II develops slowly, people who are predisposed to the disease still have a big chance of preventing this disease. According to experts, type II diabetes may be delayed or even prevented through weight control, proper diet and exercise.

Gestational Diabetes.

Since gestational diabetes often do not have any noticeable symptoms, some pregnant women who have this type of diabetes often go through pregnancy without even knowing that they have diabetes. Although this type of diabetes rarely cause miscarriage, gestational diabetes can be dangerous to the mother and the child. Pregnant women who have gestational diabetes are at risk of suffering from high blood pressure. On the other hand, babies who are born to diabetes mothers are at risk of respiratory distress.
