Diabetes is a very common and serious condition that millions of people are already dealing with today. Many more will develop the condition in the years to come and it is therefore one that all people should be informed on. The most important thing is to know what type diabetes you have if you do ever develop it.
Different Types Of Diabetes
There is not just one type diabetes and in fact a few, each with its own list of causes and symptoms. Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common type diabetes and was previously known an insulin-dependent diabetes. Type 1 diabetes most commonly develops in people under the age of 40. Each type diabetes works differently and with type 1 diabetes the body actually does not produce insulin at all.
Insulin therapy is used for this type of diabetes and once a person with type 1 diabetes has been able to find a successful treatment for their condition they can learn to live a healthy, happy life once again.
Another type diabetes and the one that is most commonly diagnosed is type 2 diabetes. In type 2 diabetes the body does produce insulin but what happens is that the cells in the body ignore the insulin. The body is resistant to the insulin and this results in the person not having a normal glucose level. This can be very dangerous, especially if the person is not eating the right amount of sugar because their blood sugar levels are going to be so out of whack.
People with type 2 diabetes must ensure they are eating a strict diet and taking care of their bodies. Exercise is essential for anyone with diabetes and they must work closely with their doctor to find the right treatment for them. Everyone is different so just because one type of treatment may work well for one person that is not to say it would work for someone else as well.
Then there is also one type diabetes which is known as gestational diabetes. This is a form of diabetes that occurs in pregnant women. Not all pregnant women develop this condition but many do and it usually occurs during the end of the pregnancy, in the second or third trimester. Gestational diabetes is a concern for doctors because it is not so much a threat to the mother but more to the unborn baby.
This is why doctors are so careful and are always performing tests when a woman is pregnant, some of which are testing for gestational diabetes. Doctors want to make sure that if the woman does develop the condition, she starts on treatment as soon as possible to get it under control. Again, eating healthy foods and exercising regularly can help with this form of diabetes and help the woman to keep herself and her baby healthy and safe.
Watching For Symptoms
The symptoms can vary from one type diabetes to another but there are certain symptoms that are prevalent with most types of diabetes and which you should be able to recognize. The earlier on you can spot a condition like this the better off you are going to be. You should never wait around if you have diabetes and instead should be working with your doctor to find the very best treatment.
If you ever notice that you are thirstier than normal, urinating more frequently than normal or have headaches, feel faint or dizzy these may be signs that you have diabetes. It only takes a quick test at your doctor’s office and they can let you know what is wrong.
Always consult your doctor before using this information.
